The Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has urged the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), and the Ministry of Industries and Production to introduce affordable, long-term financing and targeted support for Pakistan\u2019s plastic manufacturing sector amid rising energy tariffs, taxes, borrowing costs, and operational expenses.<\/p>\n
Chairman PPMA Syed Zahid Ahmed emphasized the need for practical policy measures to strengthen the sustainability, modernization, and competitiveness of the industry. The Association has proposed a long-term SME financing facility at a fixed interest rate of 2% per annum to help manufacturers upgrade machinery, improve productivity, and enhance energy efficiency.<\/p>\n
Senior Vice Chairman Raja Omer Nawaz highlighted that high commercial borrowing costs are placing severe financial pressure on small manufacturers, threatening industrial growth and employment.<\/p>\n
Vice Chairman Syed Zain Naqvi called for a proactive role by SMEDA in facilitating concessional financing, technology upgrades, recycling initiatives, and waste-reduction measures. He stressed that coordinated institutional support could help plastic manufacturers adopt sustainable technologies and improve operational efficiency.<\/p>\n
PPMA noted that the plastic industry supports vital sectors, including food and pharmaceutical packaging, construction, automotive, and consumer goods. It also offers significant potential for import substitution, employment generation, and value-added manufacturing.<\/p>\n
The Association urged relevant government institutions and financial stakeholders to develop a coordinated support framework addressing financing, technology, energy, sustainability, and regulatory challenges.<\/p>\n
